Insulation is another important aspect of a quality jacket. While you may work up a sweat on the way down the mountain, riding the lift up can be chilly business, especially with a good wind. The breathable shell of the jacket may keep you dry, but it will not keep you warm. Many people choose to wear layers under their jacket that they can remove or add to maintain the proper temperature. Some popular insulating layers include fleece and thermal vests. Some other features to look for in it include taped seams, snowskirts, and vents. Taped seams will make the jacket much more waterproof while snowskirts will prevent snow from getting into the jacket. Vents are zippered flaps in the jacket that can be used to provided ventilation and cooling down.

Snow can quickly melt and become one wet mess. This makes having a waterproof jacket of upmost importance. Some will keep you dry in a heavy downpour while others will provide protection from light weather. Most snowboarders work up a sweat out there on the slopes, which makes having a breathable jacket essential. You will quickly find yourself soaking and uncomfortable if you don’t have a breathable jacket. Most are made from breathable material, and many have pit zips to help improve ventilation.
